How to Play ArCoHex: A Comprehensive Guide
(Help & Support)
The objective of ArCoHex is to connect your starting numbers to a final target number by filling in the blank honeycomb cells with the correct integers.
The Elements of the Board
- The Honeycomb: The playing field is a grid made of hexagon-shaped cells.
- The Source (Orange Cells): These are your starting numbers. You will use these provided integers as the foundation for your math equations.
- The Target (Green Cell): This is your ultimate goal. You must fill the board in such a way that the sequence of numbers perfectly calculates to the number inside this green cell.
- The Keyboard (Bottom): Use the number pad provided at the bottom of the screen to input your answers, correct mistakes (Undo/Del), and navigate.
The Golden Rule: The Fibonacci Step
To place a number on the board, you must follow the Fibonacci Rule: every sequence of three cells in a straight line must add up perfectly so that the first two numbers equal the third (i.e., a + b = c).
The Direction of Flow: Calculations are always read from the bottom moving upwards. Because the board is a honeycomb, there are exactly three valid upward directions you can build your equations on:
- Straight Bottom-Up (Vertical)
- Bottom-Left to Up-Right (Diagonal Right)
- Bottom-Right to Up-Left (Diagonal Left)
Step-by-Step Example Walkthrough
Let’s look at the example provided in the images to see how a puzzle is solved from start to finish!
Setting the Stage: The Starting Board
Before making your first move, let’s take a look at the initial setup shown in the first image:
Image1
The board is an open canvas of empty white hexagons, with two critical elements already placed for you:
- The Source (Orange Cells): Near the center-left, you will see a small cluster of cells highlighted in orange containing the numbers 3, 0, and 4. This is your “Source.” These are the foundational numbers you are given to start the puzzle. Every mathematical path you build must originate from these orange cells.
- The Target (Green Cell): To the right of the Source, there is a single cell highlighted in green containing the number 5. This is your “Target.” It is the ultimate destination of your puzzle. Your objective is to bridge the gap between the orange cells and this green cell by building valid, overlapping equations until the final sequence lands on and perfectly calculates to the number 5.
Notice that in the very first image, the orange 0 is outlined with a blue ring. This indicates that it is currently selected, and you are ready to choose a direction to make your very first move!
Step 1: Building Up-Right
- Locate the orange 3 and the orange 0.
- Reading in the bottom-left to up-right direction, we apply the rule: 3 + 0 = ?
The answer is 3. Select the cell immediately up-right from the 0 and place a 3:

Step 2: Continuing the Line
Let’s keep building on that same diagonal line.
Take the orange 0 and the new 3 you just placed. 0 + 3 = ?
The answer is 3. Place another 3 immediately up-right from the last one:

Step 3: Building Straight Bottom-Up
Now, look at the original orange 0 and the orange 4 located directly above it.
Reading straight bottom-up, we need a number between them to make the math work: 0 + ? = 4.
The answer is 4. Place a 4 directly in the middle of them:

Step 4: Connecting the Paths
Now we need to bridge the gap between the straight vertical path and our diagonal path to reach the green target.
Look at the new 4 (middle) and the top 3 (bottom-right) you placed earlier. Reading from bottom-right to up-left: 3 + ? = 4.
The answer is 1. Place a 1 between them:

Step 5: Hitting the Target!
Look at your freshly placed 1 and the 4 below it.
Reading bottom-left to up-right toward the green target: 4 + 1 = 5.
The sequence perfectly matches the target number 5! The puzzle is solved, and the connections light up to celebrate your victory.
CONGRATULATIONS!
